Andréa A. Michel, PhD, ACC presents:

Trauma, Identity, and Context in Coaching

This webinar is approved for 2.0 Core Competency CCE's

Every client enters a coaching conversation carrying lived experiences that shape how they see themselves, respond to challenges, make decisions, and pursue their goals. Trauma, identity, and social context can all influence what shows up in the coaching relationship—and behaviors that appear to be resistance, avoidance, or lack of motivation may sometimes reflect stress- or survival-based responses.

In this session, Dr. Andréa A. Michel will help coaches explore how trauma and lived experience can influence client behavior and relationships while strengthening their ability to create psychologically safe coaching spaces. Participants will examine common coaching misinterpretations and learn trauma-sensitive approaches to listening, questioning, and holding space without minimizing a client’s lived experience or the structural realities influencing their lives.

Participants will leave better prepared to recognize stress-based responses, apply trauma-sensitive coaching practices, and cultivate greater trust, safety, and ethical awareness when working with clients navigating identity-based or systemic challenges.

The session supports several ICF Core Competencies, including Demonstrates Ethical Practice, Embodies a Coaching Mindset, Cultivates Trust and Safety, Maintains Presence, and Listens Actively.
